Crumbsnatcher DVD Storybook is Now On The Market!

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

This is the project that I have been working on and sharing with you on how to make a storybook DVD. The storybook DVD is now complete. We have been showing it at Daycare centers and the children have been having a ball. One family that purchased the DVD called us because the children would not go to sleep. They kept wanting to see the video over and over again.

So don’t show to your young children near bed time unless you want to stay up answering questions about Crumbsnatcher. I am the voice of one of the characters named Strongshare and spoke to them by phone so they would go to bed.

Create the Title Page Using a Powerpoint Feature

Step 18

Before the burning of the DVD a title page was needed. I decided to have the title float into the page, much like a PowerPoint feature. There is an animation feature in IMOVIE that allowed me to fade the text into the front of my page. This added to the engaging opening of the movie along with the music.

You can go to the category for create a story book DVD and you will find the other steps.

find-it-folder.jpg

From step 6 Create an image folder. This is a critical step so that all the images can be located easily. This should have mentioned earlier. Please do not neglect this step. The folder will be placed into a larger folder on your hard drive with the name of the project. My folder called Crumbsnatcher. I also included a folder called Text copy.”

I would like to add a point to this that file management is very very important, when working with a integrative system like iPHOTO, GARAGEBAND, iMOVIE and iDVD. I had forgotten to file my photos in iPHOTO so iMOVIE would not give me the same type of editing capability to images I imported from a different location. It was looking for the photo in iPHOTO. So now I know to keep my photos filed in a folder in iPHOTO so that everything is in a central location. This makes life so much easier. If iMOVIE can’t find what it is looking for it won’t work to it’s fullest potential.

Some Technical Stuff

mic-and-headphones-post.jpg

I decided to upgrade the microphone I was using on My Crumbsnatcher DVD. I switched to a Blue Snowball Microphone with a USB connection. I did this because the other microphone was not delivering a clean sound. A pop filter was also added to take out the pops. This was was recommended by Cherece Glover, a neighbor and friend who reviewed the first DVD. She is also had some audiovisual experience so I really valued her advice.
I increased the output level of the microphone (the gain) by using FIRMWARE which is a free download from the http://www.Bluemic.com.
Note: This microphone is really great for pod-casts also, more on that in another post when I do some.

A set of inexpensive headphones (Koss) were used to add the vocals to the track. This way the sound from the speakers would not pick up in the microphone. I made that mistake the first time and the music was on the vocal tracks and adjustments could not be fine tuned.
Do not forget to turn of the phone’s and mute the sound on all computers in the area. In addition if you are working at home put a note on the door so the doorbell will not ring(smile)

Note my set up in the picture.

Wingie Dingie Song on Story book DVD

posts_spread-your-wings.jpg

This song was created using GARAGEBAND in the MAC computer. The whistler Kevin Thompson was recorded separately on different tracks then combined. You hear two whistlers but it is Kevin both times. Then Rosie Horner added the vocals later. All of this was done after the music tracks were completed.

The packaging of the product

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

For the packaging the DVD I wanted the product to look professional so I went to Neato.com to get a DVD duplicator and printer. This made the project look professional. I purchased the Primera Bravo II PC Attach Autoloading DVD Duplicator With a 16X DVD Recorder, 25 Disc Capacity and 4800 DPI Color Inkjet DVD Printer and some Premium DVD Cases This made the product look like it should be right in the video showcase with the other video’s I’ll show you the product in a future post.

Step 20 Now it is time to burn the DVD

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Step 20
Now it is time to burn the DVD it will take sometime for the first one. I would suggest making a test DVD run it in a TV and see if there are anythings that need to be changed. If the DVD is okay then get ready for the production of the DVD’s. First setup DVD takes the longest time, it is shorter after the first one is complete the computer will ask you if you are ready to burn another it will take less time for the rest of the DVD. If you start from the beginning it will take longer. Just a word of advice enjoy your DVD.

Step 19 Working with themes tip

Step 19

After the theme was chosen in iDVD it is almost time to burn our DVD.  This is not a short process so be sure everything is exactly how you want it before you burn the DVD. One other note you can customize the templates by dropping an image into theme area to make your video different from the other videos that have been made using the templates in IDVD.
