Step 8

The next thing I did was to bring the images into IMOVIE (Part of ILIFEon the Mac) and arrange them into logical order. When Kevin Thompson and my wife, Rosie were with me we played the images to see how they flowed on the screen without sound.

Step 9

We read the script through the sequence of the viewer in IMOVIE. This allowed us the ability to extend the timing of the shot sequences to meet the flow and rate of our voices.. We also gathered together the voices for the next reading allowing for some natural ad-libbing also. We used 3 people. One person was a narrator - the others for voice changes in the main two characters.

Step 7

From the nine images I was able to recreate 17 additional images for a total of 27 to help tell the story with a lot more clarity. Some of the images where reconfigured a lot more drastically in Photoshop which I have shown you above.

The next thing I did was bring them into a video editing program. I have a Mac computer so I used imovie which is sold with the system. Final Cut Express or Pro can be used but I find the imovie is more user friendly and integrates well with other programs on my system which I will explain later. A plug for the Mac it cost more but it has been a money maker right out of the box.

Step 6

Create an image folder. This is a critical step so that all the images can be located easily. This should have mentioned earlier. Please do not neglect this step. The folder will be placed into a larger folder on your hard drive with the name of the project. My folder called Crumbsnatcher. I also included a folder called Text copy.

It will also have a video and music folder. Everything you can think of in one place. This will save you time.

While in Photoshop I sized all the images at the same size for consistancy. I had a total of nine(9) images.

Step. 5

I created more images from some of the nine original images by cropping some of the images in sections and created more details by cropping and pasting pieces into a new frame in photoshop.

Do you have a storybook you have illustrated? If yes, this series of postings will be for you. A few years ago my wife wrote a children’s story. I created images for her story and had them enlarged to “30×40″ on large illustration boards. She used these poster boards to dramatically re-create the story to audiences of children and adults.

Recently, we decided to create a DVD of the story. The story is called, Crumbsnatcher Gets a New Name. It is a powerful story about the influence of relationships on the character of our children.

We used voice overs, created music and designed a graphic layout for the dvd box and label. (See image above) But more on that later. Lets start from the very beginning.

Here are the steps I used:

Step 1. I took all the large images and photographed them outdoors. I used a digital Canon G3 camera and put them on a setting for outdoor light. I used a large file format.

Step. 2. All the images were brought into a Mac G4 computer and I used Adobe Photoshop for color correction. Note: You can use Photoshop on windows, it does not matter.
